What people say about us
We were able to experience Wayuu culture, their customs, and way of life. At the same time, we encountered an overwhelming reality in our country: the extreme poverty faced by many of our children, which impacts their physical and cognitive development. Despite this, we visited their homes, spent time with them, provided health care, and offered a smile, a hug, and a special touch in their daily lives; that is priceless. It also makes you realize how blessed we are to be able to help and learn from indigenous children

Laura Payares Salamanca
“It was an incredible experience; the generosity of the Wayuu people and the hospitality of their community were unique. Even in the midst of poverty, there was always a smile on their faces, and they found ways to make us feel at home in their homes. As a pediatrician in training, I was able to see a variety of patients and learn that the context in which children live determines their health—providing a different perspective on pediatrics. I was able to strengthen my knowledge.”.

Hendry Guao Salinas
During my time in La Guajira, I learned the pediatrics that books don't teach. I learned the pediatrics that puts on the cap and ventures down narrow paths full of adventures to bring help, smiles, and well-being. I learned that calculating inotropes means nothing if we don't know how to dose empathy, love for others, and social responsibility. Eternally grateful for this learning as deep as the sea and beyond the pages!
